In Memory of Ms. Janet Brown: A Dedicated Advocate and Cherished Member of Our Community

Dear Community Members,

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Ms. Janet Brown, a cherished member of our Center for Independent Living family. Janet dedicated over 20 years to serving our community, beginning her journey with us in 2004. She touched the lives of many through her roles as a generalist, housing counselor, and, as a program manager.

Janet’s warm smile and unwavering spirit were a constant source of inspiration, coupled with her profound understanding of the challenges related to affordable and accessible housing. Her personal experiences and expertise, particularly with Section 8 housing, made her an invaluable advocate and offered crucial support to those facing similar difficulties. Through her active involvement in outreach and community-building efforts, Janet empowered and uplifted our neighbors and friends, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

As we remember Janet, we honor the love and compassion she showed to everyone she encountered. Janet used her own experiences, including the pain of enduring gun violence, to serve and alleviate the suffering of others. Her legacy is one of strength, resilience, and a deep commitment to helping others.

Janet is survived by her son, Shondrell, who remains in our thoughts. In our next community gathering, we will take a moment to reflect on Janet’s life and the incredible impact she had on all of us.

If you find yourself in need of support during this difficult time, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here for one another, and together, we will navigate this loss as a united community.

Janet’s memory is a treasure, and her life will continue to inspire us as we move forward, honoring her legacy in the work we do.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Dr. Victor Santiago Pineda
