Volunteer

Join our team! The Center for Independent Living, Inc. is looking for disability community members and allies who want to support our goals for Independent Living and Community Access by volunteering with us. We are looking for both virtual and in-person support, and have regular, ongoing opportunities, as well as occasional tasks.

Volunteer Opportunities

COVID-19 PPE Handout

This is a monthly volunteer opportunity to help handout COVID-19 personal protective equipment to consumers at our Fruitvale location. Spanish speakers are needed.

Community Outreach Volunteers

Assist CIL during community tabling events, and help promote CIL to the community.

Media Team Volunteer

Support our media team in social media content creation, video and photo editing, folder organization, and document and website accessibility.

Travel Training Support Volunteer

This volunteer will support in-field group excursions or travel training events, including supporting our new Coastal Connections program of bringing disabled youths to coastal regions around the Bay Area.

Residential Access Volunteer

Assist our Residential Access coordinator during house assessments, including note-taking, drawing and doing measurements, and set up and uninstalling of loaner ramps.

Assistive Technology (AT) Volunteer

Our AT program is looking for volunteers to help with labeling, sorting and doing inventory of our AT technology. This volunteer will also help clean, separate, dismantle parts, harvest donated devices for responsible recycling.

Blog Post Content Researcher & Writer

This volunteer will support staff with researching content for monthly blog posts, with an emphasis on intersectional content. Draft blog posts and other social media content.

Administrative Assistance

Support the office with front desk tasks, including answering phones, getting the door, responding to online inquiries, and assisting walk-ins. There may be occasional office projects such as mailing, inventory management, and other similar tasks.

Youth Social Club Activity Leader

The Youth Social Club would like volunteers to lead an activity (i.e., Dance/Yoga, Art, Crafts, Games), in particular, during the meeting on the last Wednesday of the month from 3:30-4:30 PM in-person at Ed Roberts Campus.
