The CIL has a wide array of used assistive technology (AT) devices that you can borrow! The exact range of available loaner devices is constantly changing. Check out the product types linked below, and contact us if you have goals that could be furthered by a loan.

One way is through the California state-wide network of device loan centers. There are several “Device Lending and Demonstration Centers” across California, including CRIL in Hayward. The network database can be searched online by anyone.
- Go to https://www.myatprogram.org/DeviceLoan/Search. Make sure the “AT Program:” drop-down is set to “California”. Then type in a key word under “Search Parameters:” and see what comes up.
- State and federal grants pay for each Device Loan and Demonstration Center to mail the devices to you, so don’t be shy about letting them know your hopes for borrowing.
CIL also offers non-emergency repair services for mobility devices, with an average wait time of about one month. There is sometimes the possibility of addressing dire situations before others who had already contacted us before you, if you describe what is at stake if your services are delayed.

The CIL is not equipped to provide emergency services. A different local organization, Easy Does It, offers roadside rescue services to all disabled residents of Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Castro Valley, Emeryville, Hayward, Oakland, San Leandro, and San Lorenzo. EDI also offers additional emergency wheelchair repair services for residents of Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, El Cerrito, and Richmond (last updated October 2025).

* 1.- We average a one-month waiting time to respond to new inquiries due to the high number of requests. During the peak season (July-December) it can be even longer. If your need is time sensitive and if delay will greatly impact your self-determination, please describe your situation to us in more detail.
