Laurence is a legally blind Black man with albinism who has been passionate about technology since the mid-1990s. Self-taught, by the age of 15, he was building 3D models and rendering scenes using 3D Studio, a DOS application. At 18, he moved to the Bay Area and convinced his Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) counselor to fund his pursuit of certification as a multimedia artist and animator, despite his visual limitations. After completing his education, Laurence began teaching at a technology summer camp and later pursued internships with game development companies. However, due to the detailed visual demands of the field, he shifted his focus toward education.

Laurence became a media arts teacher at Orion Academy, a high school for students on the autism spectrum, and has since spent over 15 years developing curriculum for after-school programs and facilitating summer technology camps in Walnut Creek, Lafayette, and Concord. For the past six years, he has served as a tech counselor and digital divide coordinator at the Center for Independent Living. Laurence specializes in creating accessible, responsive web design curriculums and teaching coding to students with disabilities. He is also a dedicated advocate for inclusive technology and has extensive experience as a hip hop producer and DJ in the Bay Area.
