About the Film

Change, Not Charity tells the powerful story of the decades-long push for disability rights that led to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. While curb cuts, ramps, and accessible signage may seem standard today, they were the result of relentless activism and advocacy.

Told through the voices of key participants and witnesses, the film highlights the activists who put their bodies on the line to secure equal rights and changed the lives of millions of Americans.

Panel Discussion

Following the screening, Dr. Victor Pineda, Executive Director of the Center for Independent Living will host a panel discussion. Jim LeBrecht, Director of Change, Not Charity and Crip Camp Co-Director will be joining the panel. More panelists are coming soon.
