The Center for Independent Living (CIL) provides advocacy, programs and services in support of the rights, independence and inclusion of people with diverse disabilities.
CIL is the first independent living center in the country.
For over fifty years, we have provided independent living resources and support to youth, adults and seniors with disabilities and their families in Northern Alameda County (AC), including Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda, Emeryville, Piedmont and Albany.

The Center for Independent Living, Inc. founded in Berkeley, California, currently has offices in the northern part of Alameda County in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Please Keep in mind
- Appointments: For in-person services meetings are subject to the staff member's schedule you wish to meet.
- Mask Policy:We require people to wear masks at all times in our offices. Our capacity is capped at 15 people. Appointments and walk-ins for in-office services are on a first-come, first-served basis.
- No-Scent Policy: Please do not wear any scented products at CIL offices or events.
- Disruptive Behavior:The Center for Independent Living, Inc. maintains the right to deny services to anyone whose behavior is disruptive to services and/or employees of the agency and/or disrespectful to the person providing services and/or members and/or visitors at CIL.
